Vegan GYG Options

31 items are tagged vegan in the nutrition data. They are mostly sides, dips, beans, rice and drinks, so the main meals need a small change to become vegan. This page lists what is vegan as served and shows how to build the rest.

What is vegan at Guzman y Gomez?

The honest answer is that the vegan list is built from parts, not plates. Of the 31 items tagged vegan, not one is a burrito, bowl, taco, nacho, quesadilla or enchilada. They come from minis & little g’s (3), breakfast (2), sides & dips (21), cafe hola (5).

Vegan as served

These need no changes: the chipotle fries, plain corn chips and chips with guacamole, pico de gallo or tomatillo salsa, black, pinto and rice sides, the guacamole, pico and salsa tubs, avocado toast, Little G's fresh apple, and black coffee and tea.

Watch the allergen column

Vegan does not mean allergen free. The Sourdough Toast with Avocado lists wheat, and the Black Beans side lists soy. Check the allergen matrix if you avoid either.

Vegan with one change

The vegetable mains are tagged vegetarian rather than vegan, and in the data the only animal-derived ingredient in the Sautéed Vegetables with Guac Bowl is cheese. That makes it the most practical vegan main. The vegetarian menu has the full list of items that are one swap away.

Why the tag is cautious

A dish is tagged vegan only when every listed ingredient is. If you remove an ingredient yourself, the tag stays off, so confirm the change with the restaurant.

How to build a vegan burrito bowl at GYG

The workable vegan meal is a bowl, because the corn chips, rice, beans and guacamole are all plant based. Here are the numbers for each step, using the published bowl and the calculator's swap estimates.

1. Choose the veg bowl, hold the cheese

The Sautéed Vegetables with Guac Bowl is 690 Cal with 19.4 g of protein. Without cheese the estimate is about 600 Cal and 13.4 g.

2. Swap to pinto beans

Pinto beans add about 35 Cal and 2.8 g of protein over black beans. That puts the bowl at roughly 635 Cal and 16.2 g.

Why it matters

It is the biggest protein gain available without adding meat or cheese.

3. Or go for tacos

The Hard Corn Sautéed Vegetable Taco is 275 Cal and lists only milk as an allergen. Swapping cheese for vegan herb mayo gives about 292 Cal and 3.7 g of protein.

These are estimates built from the swap data, not GYG published numbers. Use the GYG calorie calculator to see the full macros after each change.

Lean and filling

Pinto beans have the most protein of any vegan item under 250 Cal, and pico de gallo is only 18 Cal for a medium tub. Together they make a light plant-based plate.

Easy to overdo

A large guacamole is 511 Cal and a family serve of fries is 1190 Cal. Vegan items can be very high in calories, so check the size before you order.

What the vegan tag does not tell you

The tag follows the ingredients on the published list. It cannot tell you how food is cooked or what it touches in a busy kitchen. If you eat strictly vegan, say so when you order and ask about shared fryers, grills and utensils. The disclaimer and methodology pages explain how this site handles dietary tags.

Vegan GYG questions

Does Guzman y Gomez have vegan options?

Yes, but mostly as sides rather than ready-made meals. 31 items are tagged vegan in the data, including fries, black and pinto beans, rice, guacamole, pico de gallo and tomatillo salsa. None of the standard burritos, bowls or tacos is tagged vegan as served, because they include cheese.

How do I order a vegan burrito bowl at GYG?

Start with the Sautéed Vegetables with Guac Bowl (690 Cal). Its only milk ingredient is cheese, so ask for it without cheese. The calculator estimates that gives roughly 600 Cal and 13.4 g of protein. Tell the crew you are ordering vegan so they can check the rest.

Are GYG fries vegan?

The Fries with Chipotle Seasoning have no allergens listed and are tagged vegan, at 358 Cal for a medium. The data cannot show whether they share a fryer with animal products, so ask in store if that matters to you.

Is GYG guacamole vegan?

Yes, the guacamole sides are tagged vegan: 165 Cal for small, 237 Cal for medium and 511 Cal for large. It is high in fat but has no milk or egg listed.

Is GYG herb mayo vegan?

Yes, it is labelled [Vegan] in the extras list. A 40 g serve is 229 Cal, so it adds up faster than salsa. On tacos it can replace cheese, and the calculator treats that swap as roughly +17 Cal.

Where do vegans get protein at GYG?

Beans are the main source. The Pinto Beans side has 13.4 g of protein for 220 Cal, and the Black Beans side has 7.6 g. Swapping black beans for pinto beans in a bowl adds about 2.8 g of protein.

Vegan tags follow the published ingredient list only. They say nothing about shared fryers or utensils, so confirm with the restaurant.
